If you’re making the switch from iPhone to Android, it’s the perfect time to unshackle yourself from the locked-in walled garden of the Apple ecosystem. It can be a little tricky to access and transfer all of your iCloud content, since Apple obviously doesn’t want to see you go. If you use Upthere Home’s desktop app, though, it can be pretty easy.

Step-by-step guide

To start, you’ll need to download and launch the Upthere Home app on your desktop computer.

If you’re on a Mac, you should automatically have iCloud Drive in the sidebar of your Finder. If you’re on a PC, you’ll need to download the iCloud Drive app before getting started.

Once you have this set up:

  1. Open a Finder / File Explorer window and navigate to the iCloud Drive folder.

2. Click the first file in the iCloud Drive folder.

3. Hold down the shift key and click the last file in list, in the iCloud Drive folder.

4. Click and drag the entire selection into the Upthere Home app.

That’s it. All your files from iCloud Drive will be saved to Upthere Home. You can track the progress of the upload in Flow within Upthere Home.

Once your upload has completed, feel free to delete all the local files taking space on your computer!

iCloud Drive alternate approach

Unfortunately, it is possible but not easy to mass transfer content out of iCloud Drive through the web. iCloud Drive makes you drag each individual file out separately, meaning you’d have to individually download every file to your Desktop, then drag it into Upthere Home. This is only advisable if you have a few items you’d like to selectively transfer from iCloud Drive.

Upthere Home is available for Android, iPhone, Mac, and Windows.
