This week’s Loop of the Week features the work of Felix, a passionate drone photographer currently living in Istanbul, Turkey. Felix is originally from Germany and grew up in Rostock, a small city by the Baltic Sea. Over the past few years, he’s lived and worked in the US, UK, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Egypt.

He loves immersing himself in aerial photography because it allows him to view the world from above. Since his early childhood days, the idea of flying has fascinated him. Growing up, he always urged his parents to take him to airports so he could watch planes take off and land. As a kid who loved being in planes, Felix always asked to sit by the window, so he could watch the sky up above and look at Earth down below. While many frequent flyers prefer the aisle seat, he still prefers window seats because seeing our planet from above never ceases to amaze him.

For his aerial shots, Felix uses a DJI Phantom 4. When he’s on the ground, he uses a Canon 70D or his girlfriend’s Canon 5D. He’s been playing around with SLR lenses and photoshop since his teenage years. He’s absorbed some inspiration from his girlfriend, who recently elevated her food and travel blog to the next level as she became more serious about shooting and editing. This inspired him to develop his own niche. That’s when he decided to buy his drone, and things started taking off — literally. :)

He predicts that drone photography will grow over the coming years. That’s why he wants to continue refining his skills and developing his own personal style. He hopes to create a large body of work, which he can be proud of someday. In the future, Felix would love to have his work at an exhibition, sell more work commercially, and share his experiences in a book or perhaps as part of a workshop.

When he’s not a drone pilot, he’s leading the Marketing Team of a large consumer goods company. His job has given him the opportunity to travel and live all around the world, which is his second largest passion. He’s passionate about visiting other cultures, and he’s excited to visit and see his 70th country this year. Follow his journey on Instagram!
