Whats Your Status

Hope you have heard about setting your status in Slack. It is pretty nifty and we love it. Each status can be up to 100 characters and illustrated with an emoji of your choice. After the initial fun and games ended (status messages like ‘monday hustle!’, ‘i hate the name rebecca’, ‘throwing rocks at squirrels’ etc), it dawned on us how interesting this could get if AttendanceBot started consuming and updating these status messages.

A few hours and several cans of red bull later, we had the first cut of our Slack status integration ready for the world. It is pretty straightforward, your absence and time off related slack status messages show up as vacation requests in Slack.

It works the other way as well. AttendanceBot enables you to inform your colleagues about you being on breaks. With simple messages like ‘brb in 10 mins’ or ‘lunch’ you can mark yourself unavailable for a specified duration so when your colleagues enquire about you, AttendanceBot tells them that you’re away and will be back in a few minutes. Well now, you can simply choose to set the same as your status so people don’t even have to ask AttendanceBot.

To get started type my status or update your status in Slack. Do take it for a spin and let us know what you think of it in the comments! We’re always eager to hear from you.

PS: Not using AttendanceBot yet? Head to www.attendancebot.com to get started right now. It takes 5sec really :)
