Today is my 6th skating anniversary, I share the Top 10 life lessons I learned from my mid-life comeback to the ice.

  1. You don’t become less afraid, you just learn to do things scared.
  2. Self-esteem and confidence are not the same thing, but the easiest way to build confidence is to do and overcome hard things.
  3. The easiest way to build self-esteem is to learn self-compassion. If you talked to a friend the way you talk to yourself, would you still be friends with them?
  4. The back industry is worth $100 billion dollars. Stop blaming your back.
  5. You can only create from the present moment. The past is gone and the future is created by the present moment. See what I did there?
  6. Pain is temporary. Regret lasts forever.
  7. You don’t rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your mindset.
  8. Without a struggle, the achievement will not be satisfying.
  9. Consistency beats talent.
  10. Your legacy is not the number of awards, degrees or money in your bank, but rather the number of lives you impacted.
