11:30 AM

You’re sleep deprived. You stayed up till 4:00AM last night working on some report that no one would really read, and dragged your disgruntled self to work because you initially had a meeting at 9:00.

Keyword is: initially. Of course, no one bothered to tell you the meeting was cancelled when you shoved yourself out of the apartment. You’ve already wasted two hours re-reading your emails, deciding whether or not you should really reply to that message now or leave it for later. You leave it for later.

First things first, you need to be awake. Or well, functioning.

You decide to get some hot water to wake you up. No coffee. You’re trying to do this weird detox thing everyone on your Facebook feed does once in a while. You head to the office pantry, pick a random-yet-hopefully-clean glass, and fill it with hot water.

You hardly notice someone making coffee beside you. You don’t care. At least, you tell yourself, just don’t bump into the stranger.

DEAR SLEEPY BODY, DO NOT BUMP INTO THE STRANGER. DO NOT EMBARRASS YOURSELF, IT IS NOT EVEN LUNCH YET.

Groggily obeying, your body waits till the stranger finishes making his coffee. So you sit there, holding your hot-water-in-a-cup.

“Hey.”

You instinctively glance to where the voice came from. You barely take a look at the stranger’s face, but you still do. Maybe for about 3 seconds. Nothing registers.

“Hey,” you reply back out of politeness. He passes you, you make sure your body stays put, and he walks away from the pantry.

It’s only when he makes his way to the office door that you start remembering who he — NOOOOOO!!!

LOOK, I KNOW IT’S PRETTY LUCKY HOW I GOT TO SEE HIM AGAIN TODAY GIVEN HOW RANDOMLY WE MET THE OTHER DAY, BUT YOU’D THINK THAT WHEN I FINALLY GET TO MET MY CUTE SPECIAL GUY I’D HAVE SOMETHING PREPARED. LIKE SOMETHING. ANYTHING.

BUT HERE I AM WITH ‘HEY?!’

OF ALL THE CREATIVE, WITTY THINGS I COULD’VE STARTED WITH, I JUST SAID ‘HEY.’ WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE. I WRITE THINGS, I KNOW WORDS. I KNOW PLENTY OF WORDS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE DIFFICULT. I —

So that was how you managed to wake up at 11:30AM without the coffee or the hot water. Now you just had to deal with the raging bitterness in your heart.

Grreeaaaat. So. Much. Fun.
