Why brands should leverage AR filters

Hi readers! This blog is going to be why I think that AR filters are going to be major game changers in the digital world of marketing of brands! They play a pivotal role in helping a brand be ‘top of mind’ which inadvertently, if the product is good, then the AR filters can act as extra ‘game boosters’ from competition. When the product is loved, coupled with getting all of remaining ‘Ps of marketing’ right, the brand is sure to get a good ROI on using the AR filter.

I am going to share one example of a brand — Frooti, from India, that recently launched a campaign #TheFrootiLife with a focus on AR filters.

Let’s first understand what is an AR filter?

AR filters are basically effects generated by computers that are layered over the real image that your camera displays. What an AR filter does in an Instagram story does is it alters the image that your front and back camera displays.

Why AR filter worked for this brand?

The rich-media campaign encouraged users to start their front camera to catch the falling mangoes in their mouth, using face detection technology in an augmented environment. Frooti succeeded in making a lasting impact on their users, through this interesting ad experience. This ad reached 1.9 million users, while engaging them with Frooti’s story.

The objective of this campaign was to create an experience that is highly innovative while also balancing out the campaign’s messaging about building brand recall during summertime.

They made sure to target their smallest viable market — the millennials, who responded positively, taking the campaign to successful heights.
