What is happening?

The future will require more hard skills, although the soft skills will set you apart from your counterparts. Developments in tech fields are reaching all industries and businesses, even the government which is a pure bureaucracy. According to Forbes, 80% of businesses are investing in artificial intelligence. (Columbus, 2017)

Programming knowledge in the future will be like being able to surf the internet today. Practically everyone knows how to use computers now, and they impact daily life.

In technical industries such as finance, medicine, and business-specific knowledge must be relayed between programmers and the users of the program. A lot can be lost in translation and many users don’t understand the capabilities and restrictions of different languages and syntax in code.

Where will it go?

Many programming applications would be easy to make if it was taught in college as part of the general curriculum. It would be more efficient in the specific industry because they know the in’s and out’s of what they want to be done.

In most industry’s, programs could do the work of humans. I believe the future is pointing to humans programming the tasks they do, like inputting data and customer service. Many customer service issues could be fixed with artificial intelligence. Most data inputs can be extracted from data available such as credit card numbers in transactions or inventory.

Many look toward the future as an era of renaissance, after all these innovations people, will be allowed to be creative again, the 20th century arguably made human brains to be data centers. Maybe the 21st and beyond everyday people will be involved with art, music, and other creative endeavors. Education might teach us the programming knowledge but when a point in time comes, toward automated programs created by neural networks.
