Lesser Things

In shadows we find
lesser things than we
and study forms
we tell ourselves
shouldn’t be —
for we can turn
our backs upon
these quiet horrors,
bowing heads
in grim quiescence,
as we stumble onward,
frail forms braced
against prevailing winds
that remind us
once again
of all that
never should
have been.
