I choose to move
Another year draws to an end
A party beckons with dear friends
What is my focus for next year
As I rise to a new frontier?
I want to move.
A year of change, a year of life
A year to be a brand new wife
It’s time to listen to the heart
I will be elder — so must start
To make the move.
My body is my temple sweet
She’s held me through the cold, the heat
It’s time to pay her all she’s due
She has been quite the friend — it’s true
She’s blessed to move
It’s time to find that inner drum
The one that beats the soul’s rhythm
To listen in, to feel the dance
To let the body, take the chance
To groove and move
It’s time to let the heart and mind
Take second place, it’s time to find
Connection to the body’s way
To flex and sweat and scream and play
It’s time to move
There’s wisdom that is in our cells
That must have voice and even tells
Of sorrows past and let’s them go
This can be only found in flow
When I can move
I really have been half asleep
With promises I did not keep
To nourish her and help her thrive
Dear body — thank you — I’m alive
You need to move.
Next year will be a simple call
To be embodied through it all
To hear the heart, the blood, the soul,
To feel what’s needed for the whole
I choose to move

About this poem:
Thinking ahead to 2023 — what this year means for me as I turn 60. What should I focus on?
I notice that I want to honour this vessel that has carried me through thick and thin. This faithful companion. My body.
I do absolutely love a sofa and lolling around — but something tells me this is the year to cherish and take care of my body. To discover how she likes to move and what moving gives her.
This past week I was on session with my Personal Trainer. I started the session in tears (on the inside) and noticed them diminish as I went through the workout, by the end, the mood had shifted. I realised that for me, that day it was a beautiful, simple and healthy way of processing energy.
It inspired me, along with my upcoming 60th milestone to focus on embodiment and movement. To discover how to move energy this way.
So my 2023 mantra?
I choose to move.
