Logos from Berlin’s Hottest Startups

As the tech capital of Germany, and arguably all of Europe, Berlin has quickly become known for its effervescent startup scene. Using WhereOnThe.Net, we traced the logos from 10 of the most prominent “Silicon Allee” startups to see if their Internet presence properly reflected their success.

SoundCloud

Logo for SoundCloud

Perhaps the most successful startup out of Berlin, SoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform where users can upload, record, promote and share originally-created sounds. Since its creation in August 2007, the service has acquired over 40 million users.

The SoundCloud logo has appeared on 989 websites, including Smashing Magazine and Cakewalk. Only two percent of the logo’s total occurrences are from the SoundCloud website. Since first appearing in July 2008, this is how it has spread online to 7,531 unique pages.

Bookingkit

Logo for bookingkit

bookingkit acts as a booking solution for leisure services such as guided tours, cooking classes and outdoor ventures. Because it is fully web-based, business owners can instantly implement bookingkit on their own website.

Since February 2008, the bookingkit logo has been featured on Future of the Book, Yellow Pages Serbia and 434 other websites. Within those websites, the logo has appeared on 4,139 unique pages with a spike between February and March 2014 where it nearly tripled in occurrences. ZenMate

ZenMate promotes privacy and security by developing a VPN service that can be used by anyone to prevent hackers, governments and ISP’s from monitoring your online activity. According to their website, ZenMate has over 25 million registered users.

Online appearances skyrocketed between December 2013 and June 2014, jumping from about 250 occurrences to nearly 4,000 during the six month period. ZenMate’s logo has been spotted on 4,848 unique pages through 141 websites, such as Project A Ventures and GAME. Here is a look at the distribution per website.

ResearchGate

Logo for ResearchGate

ResearchGate is an online networking platform that allows scientists and researchers to share papers, ask and answer question and find collaborators. According to company data, the service has roughly eight million users.

TechCrunch and Ryerson University are just two of the 181 websites that the ReasearchGate logo has appeared on. The logo has had 700 total occurrences, with numbers spiking in January 2014 and again in December 2014. This is how it has spread online since first appearing in April 2008.

Startnext

Logo for Startnext

Known for being the largest crowdfunding community in Germany, Startnext enables artists, inventors and social entrepreneurs to promote their ideas and gain funding for projects. Startnext is also the leading crowdfunding source in Austria and Switzerland.

Though it first appeared online in March 2008, the logo didn’t become widespread until it’s first big spike where it gained about 100 occurrences between February and April 2010. Today it has reached nearly 300 unique pages on 91 websites, including Creative Bloq and Photobucket. Here is how the image has spread on the Internet over time.

Clue

Logo for Clue

Clue is a mobile application designed for women to track fertility and menstruation by entering personal data regarding issues like pain, mood, fluid and sexual activity. Clue then uses an algorithm to calculate and predict the user’s unique cycle.

The logo first appeared on the Internet in April 2008. However, it wasn’t until January 2015 that the app’s took off online with 300 of the 437 occurrences popping up this year. It has now reached 68 total websites, ranging from Google Play to Slate. Here’s a glimpse of the distribution per website.

orderbird

Logo for orderbird AG

Operating in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, orderbird provides restaurants an iPad POS system for catering. The application has more than 43,000 downloads and 5,000 customers ranging from ice cream shops to beer gardens.

This logo was also released in April 2008, but did not gain momentum online until over six years later with spikes in October 2014 and January 2015. It has now appeared on 52 websites and has racked up 3,677 unique pages. Ninety-two percent of those occurrences, though, were from t3n. This is a look at how it has spread throughout the Internet.

twago

Logo for twago

With over 225,000 users, twago is the leading platform for online work in Europe. The service allows individuals or companies to find the experts they need for project and freelancers or agencies to find work. Within their six years of existence, twago has generated over €150 million in project volume.

twago is another company whose logo did not take off until this year. It has now appeared on 29,112 unique pages, but only about 200 of those manifested before April 2015. While it has also appeared on 43 different websites, you can see below that 98 percent of the previously mentioned occurrences took place on their own website in Spain.

Blacklane

Referred to as Germany’s solution to Uber, Blacklane connects passengers to a network of licensed and insured drivers to create a reliable professional driver service. Blacklane’s “five-star service” is available in 50 countries and has served thousands of customers.

Since first appearing in July 2009, the Blacklane logo has reached 61 websites and over 150 unique pages. However, many of these hits actually came from the logo of BlackRock, a multinational investment management corporation out of New York City. Maybe this is a sign that it is time for some rebranding. This is a look at how both the BlackRock and Blacklane logos have spread online.

Wunderlist

Logo from Onefootball

Onefootball is a mobile app that covers over 100 international football leagues and competitions and serves over 14 million users. The app gives football fans around the world access live scores, commentaries, breaking news and more.

The logo has emerged on 180 unique pages. Although the image’s occurrences peaked in March 2015, the app gained most of its mobility during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Since first appearing in May 2014, this is how it has spread to websites like AppDated and ZIGG Brazil.
