“I feel like I have two homes, one being Greenbrier but Morgantown has made me into who I am today.”

— Troy Clemons, “The Mountaineer”

Troy Clemons isn’t the average mountaineer at WVU. He’s THE Mountaineer, the mascot of West Virginia University. A Greenbrier county native and a 21-year-old sports management major in his first year of his master’s degree, Troy lives with his sister, a friend, and a puppy in a three-bedroom trailer off campus in a neighborhood fittingly named “Mountaineer Village”. This is Troy’s fourth year living in his home.

“I didn’t have any reason to leave. I like it a lot.”

The Mountaineer takes his beard grooming very seriously — he owns a grooming kit and care products in order to maintain it.

What does this place mean to you?
Troy:
This place is pretty important to me; it’s the first place I’ve lived without my parents. This is my fourth year in the trailer. I just hang out and relax, enjoy the quiet, and go outside.

What made you live here? What is the best and worst part of the space?
Troy:
My sister lived here and it made it easier for my parents. The best part is being alone and being away from everyone, which is also the biggest downside.

How did you decide to decorate your living space?
Troy:
I just come across stuff that I like and old roommates did the same and added decorations as they came and went.

What’s your favorite thing in the house?
Troy:
It is definitely my Dale Earnhardt #3 banner. I grew up going to NASCAR races, and Dale has always been a big inspiration to me.

Rent: $350 per person with utilities
