while(self++) { #4 } // Keep Calm & Carry On
Seconds after I published my third post of this series, I realized a crucial error. My posts had no titles. That is to say, they were numbered, but there were no immediate indications as to what I was writing about. How are any of you supposed to differentiate my posts just by number? Useful, Simon. Very useful.
Fast iteration is key. Successful startups employ this tactic often. They put out a product quickly, receive user feedback, fix mistakes, and put out another iteration of the product. The underlying idea is that it is ok for the product not to be perfect, so long as you deal with the issues quickly and re-release the product in short order. This idea of fast iteration has been the basis for many successful software development methodologies. If you have the bandwidth, check out this amazing, if somewhat overwhelming, compilation of various paradigms.
Even in the course of writing my last few posts, I wanted to put my thoughts to (electronic) paper as fast as possible. I do spend time organizing these posts, and I do give them a couple of once-overs. Ultimately, I publish them in their (likely) imperfect states… that is, until I give them another thorough read and make some minor edits. I am not impervious to grammar and spelling mistakes.
All this to say — I’ve gone back through all my posts and added titles. I made a somewhat glaring mistake, yes, but keep calm and carry on.
