I’m not talking about fruits and vegetables here. I’m referring to any of life’s endeavors that are worth doing. In order for any of them to be maintained and strengthened, they need constant work. Hobbies. Skills. Love. Infatuation might be born in fits of passion, but a connection can’t last forever without diligent care — love is beyond infatuation. It is rare for something to come completely organically and remain so through sheer force of a first encounter.

My writing isn’t always organic either. Sometimes, ideas come naturally. Others times, events occur that write themselves. But relying on either of these is not enough. Good ideas require work and energy, so I look for inspiration regularly. I can’t wait for something to fall into my lap. Sometimes, I find inspiration in other people. I ask them questions about what’s on their mind, how they’re feeling, what they’ve been doing recently, how they can improve. I ask these questions of myself, too. I look into my past via old notes and drawings — it brings back memories. Frames of my thoughts of weeks, months, and years past. I learn something about myself. I’ll try it more often. We’ll see what I conclude.
