while(self++) { #72 } // Accepting Yourself Before Accepting Others
I went to a meditation today. Today’s topic of conversation was about acceptance. Someone brought up an interesting point that I didn’t quite know how to feel about: “It’s easier to accept others for who they are if you accept yourself first.” People might not quite have everything figured out or be ok with some aspect of themselves, but why is that a prerequisite for accepting others? Perhaps it’s not a necessary condition, but the claim could just be that it’s easier to do so. The emotional awareness necessary for accepting oneself could be the same state necessary for doing so with others. But if that’s the case, why is not the converse statement true as well? Once you’ve accepted others, it becomes easier to accept yourself. Food for thought! And thoughts appreciated.
