At Whirlpool we believe that great communities are the foundation of great business. This vision is clearly supported by our 2018 Community Day where more than 500 employees in 10 countries across Europe, Middle East and Africa set aside their work clothes for one day to volunteer at 29 local non-profit organizations. Such widespread social commitment is truly impressive if you think that the first edition of our Community Day last year involved only our EMEA Headquarters in Milan, Italy.

As a “volunteer for one day” myself and participant of both editions, I am extremely proud to work for a company that strives to give back to the local communities where it operates, and encourages its employees to do the same, by supporting organizations to create a collective impact all around. Seeing so many of my colleagues in the different countries embrace this vision, I can’t help but feel fortunate to work in an environment where people really do work together to reach common goals.

This commitment not only contributes to creating a better community but it also allows us to build and maintain strong connections with the communities where we are present. This year, we were honored to see Italian Institutional Representatives from the Municipality of Milan, the Marche Region and the Municipality of Varese attend our Community Days in Italy and recognize our social efforts towards these three communities.

Whirlpool’s commitment regarding corporate social responsibility aims at creating a virtuous system through initiatives like Community Day that guarantee and protect the health and well-being and the needs of the environment and the local territories where the company operates.

In the Europe, Middle East and Africa Region, Whirlpool’s corporate giving strategy is primarily focused on raising awareness about responsible food consumption, helping families in need find safe and sustainable housing solutions and youth employment. These issues were the main focus points of this year’s Community Day and we were humbled to have the opportunity to support the 29 associations involved which share such similar missions.
