Grand Prix For “We Wish We’d Done That!”: Finding Inspiration at Cannes
OKRP’s Chief Creative Officer explains his “likes” from the 2017 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity
Words & photos by Matt Reinhard
To describe exactly what Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is would require a short documentary or an 8-part mini-series to fully understand the spectacle of it all. The global advertising industry all converging in the South of France for one week in the month of June. With awards given to best television commercials, radio spots, online videos, outdoor, pro-bono and media blitzkriegs — Cannes Lions celebrate the best of the best ideas in the world. So without diving into the myriad of Q&A’s, TED-like talks, interviews and breakout sessions, and all the rosé that was consumed on the patio of the Carlton Hotel — there is, at the end of the day, the work. The work that shines the brightest. The work that inspires. The work that sells actual products. The work that made me and Tom O’Keefe (my creative partner of 20+ years, and co-founder of our Chicago agency O’Keefe Reinhard & Paul) stop and say, “Holy shit! We wish we’d done that.”
