As part of this series, we chose to highlight the Deanston 12yo, Glenfiddich 12yo and the Glenmorangie The Original.

We chose these three as they exemplify what we mean by A Whisky for Everyone — accessible for newbies with an underlying sophisticated complexity that will appeal to connoisseurs. Also, peat can be a huge dividing factor for the whisky community, so these lie on the non-smoky part of the whisky flavour map.

1. Deanston 12 YO

Listed as one of the top 29 bottles of whisky in the world by Business Insider, the Deanston 12 YO is described as having a “very attractive nose with honey dominating followed by barley sugar and vanilla. All held in great oak cradle. Some light cereal notes with orange marmalade come into play along with toasty nuts, soft caramel and some short bread. Rich and full in the mouth where lots more oak and vanilla show. Ultra smooth yet fairly short, soft, clean finish.”

On the whisky flavour map, it is on the Light-Delicate spectrum and has a lingering finish that is really unexpected.

2. Glenfiddich 12 YO

The Glenfiddich is the world’s best selling single-malt whisky and is the most awarded in the International Spirits Challenge. To find out how to nose and taste the Glenfiddich 12YO, check out Malt Master Brian Kinsman.

It is an all-time classic and a great everyday dram. Essential for anyone who is interested in getting to know whisky and a staple on our shelves here at Bootleg Brew Singapore.

3. Glenmorangie The Original

It is a light bodied whisky and it is recommended to have some time between your last meal before tasting this to clear your palate. In the words of the Rum Howler, “each time I returned to the whisky to continue my tasting sessions, I seemed to find a new nuance of flavour. The gentle complexity of the Original Glenmorangie is extremely engaging.”

This is our go-to recommendation for people interested in the getting started on their whisky journey but don’t quite know how to get started. It has many layers and provides a different experience each time so it’s ultimate value for money!

Cheers!
