I froze mid-stage

The faceless audience sat like a monster

The spotlights hovered around me,

My words stood still, caged at my lips . . .

But the world didn’t stop.

Strangers laughed, friends teased, acquaintances sympathised

I wish I could turn mute to prevent the embarrassment,

Of being somewhere in between words and silence.

I stuttered, I paused, I tried . . .

But the world didn’t stop.

One day at the brink of maturity,

I looked at the mirror.

My achievements, my talents shone like sparkling jewels

On a newly visible crown

But my world didn’t stop . . .

It burst into happiness!
