7/10/21. Save that date in your calendars, as that was the day football changed for good. Newcastle United, languishing in lowly 19th, were finally freed from the widely despised Mike Ashley, who tried to commercialise such a great football club. After 14 years of pain and mediocrity, Newcastle fans have been given a newfound hope for the future of their club.

For those who aren’t familiar with the details, let me walk you through what exactly happened. Four years after Saudia Arabia’s Public investment fund registered their interest via businesswoman Amanda Stavely, the PIF finally got approval to take over the club for just over 300 million pounds. While the process of the takeover was breathtaking enough, the fact that Amanda Stavery, who will be the new face of Newcastle, has announced her ambitions to bring a PL trophy to St James Park by 2031 has sent fans all over the world into a frenzy.

But how exactly does she plan to do this? the answer is simple: Money. Money talks, and the PIF certainly have a lot of it. They are 13 times richer than Man City, and while they may not invest all of it into the club, they will certainly cash out the big bucks to make marquee signings, a non-existent factor in Mike Ashley’s reign.

While this is good news for Neutral fans and Newcastle fans, it spells trouble for the big 6. In particular, the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham will be disheartened that yet another cash-rich team will be joining them in the upper half of the table. It’s hard enough winning a trophy with Chelsea and Man City throwing cash around, and Newcastle joining this prestigious list of clubs will be frustrating to say the least.

Overall, this takeover will be delightful for football fans, making the Premier League even more competitive and scintillating. While there are some questions on whether the new owners are suited to own a club, the PL has approved the takeover to the delight of Newcastle fans. Moreover, though I feel happy for Newcastle fans, I can’t help but fear that unless Manchester United win the PL this year, we fans will have to wait even longer for our next trophy. Newcastle are back for good, and will be the league’s next Man City, mark my words. Well, just don’t be surprised if the likes of Mbappe Pogba and Zidane turn up at St James Park next season.
