There is a real art to affiliate marketing. Done correctly it will passively provide you with a second income. With affiliate marketing, you partner with brands and businesses within the content of your website. If you mention a product or service, you link to that produce or service using a unique affiliate code you received when you signed up for that particular affiliate program. From there, you’ll make money any time someone buys a product or service through your link. There are lots of secrets, though, to knowing how to do affiliate marketing effectively. Done correctly, you can make an extra $500 — $10,000 a month. The problem is most people don’t know what they are doing, and they just sprinkle affiliate links willy-nilly in their blog, giving no value.

I use the methods I learned here across eight of my blogs and, after a year, was able to make enough money to quit my day job (thankfully! — That job was exhausting me). If you want to create your own course there are several platforms to choose from.

I like teachables.com, Udemy.com, thinkific.com, but there are a plethora with which to choose. Some like Teachable and Thinkific both offer a free plan to get started setting up your course. Google online teaching platform to see all the different platforms out there.

Book Sales print, Kindle or ebook

You can complete the entire process of writing, publishing, and marketing a book online these days. Websites like KDP (Kindle) will let you upload and take your book to print without getting a formal publisher involved. You can put your book for sale on Amazon.com and other sites such as Barnes and Noble. There is no cost for listing your book.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE SCRIBBLE! Hands down the easiest way to publish your kindle book. Scribble gives you completely formatted templates for your e-book or newsletter that you can design any which way you want, or you can use their predesigned templates. It is so damn easy and painless to create a book with Scribble. I have an entire series of shorter how-to books now for sale on Amazon thanks to this program, and it literally took me a total of 20 minutes to design each gorgeous cover and format the entire book, including the graphics on each page.

I’m an artist, and I know a little graphic design, but even knowing Adobe InDesign, I am happy to use Scribble instead. I want to write my books and share my information, not spend a month designing the cover and formatting it.

Put ads on your blog with Google Adsense

Google ads are everywhere and for a good reason. Not only are they easy to set up on any basic website, but they can be lucrative once your website starts bringing in a steady amount of traffic.

One of the cool things about Google AdSense is that it’s so easy to get set up. If you have a blog or website, you can sign up for a free Google AdSense Account. From there, Google will give you a unique code that you will paste onto your website. Google takes it from there, tracking your page views, traffic, and earnings on your behalf. There is no upkeep or maintenance one your ads are up, so you can focus on making fresh blog content. There are other (and some would say better) options for making even more money by placing ads on your blog through private companies, but that usually entails having a well-visited blog with great content.

Lead Sales

Another way to make money online is by collecting leads. The main steps you need to complete to make lead sales work include setting up a website, getting traffic to that website, and making sure you’re collecting leads that someone will actually pay for. A quick google search will clue you in on all the different opportunities there.

Freelance Writing

If you have writing skills and creative talent, it’s also possible to get paid to create online content. I don’t do this as much as I used to, but I am very aware of how viable this income stream is. You can get started writing on content mills to boost your skills. Most content mills make you write a sample article, then you have to wait to see if you get accepted. After you are accepted you will be assigned a rate per word. Pay rates vary widely, from $0.01/word to $0.20/word.

Most content mills don’t require professional writing experience. What matters is the ability to produce a grammatically correct writing sample that clearly communicates factual information. Some sites also require applicants to pass a grammar test, and some hire only from English-speaking countries which you prove by showing a copy of your driver’s license.

I highly recommend investing in the online editing program Grammarly. Grammarly catches all the mistakes your tired eyes miss! I can’t tell you how many times Grammarly has fixed my grammar and suggested improvements to my writing after I thought my writing was polished. If you can’t afford an editor I recommend Grammarly.

Some of the world’s top copywriters have made literally millions of dollars a year. Those writers at the top are highly skilled.

This is why it’s important to increase your copywriting skills. Copywriting is an art in itself and it’s always important to sharpen your craft. Here are two courses I love.

What’s the most powerful marketing medium on the internet?

If you didn’t say video…you’re just plain wrong. YouTube is another platform that has made it possible for people to earn money online in several different ways. There are a ton of YouTube channels out there on any topic if you can think of, and most of the people with a big following are earning some money in exchange for their videos and time. But the real secret is the power of YouTube to market your website, blog, book, or product.

YouTube is a ridiculous traffic source if you know how to use it correctly. One of my blogs went up from 1500 monthly page views to over 100,000 monthly page views in two months just by creating YouTube videos about my posts. The problem is once you make a quality video if you don’t know how to promote it no-one will see it.

70% of marketers are already using YouTube to promote their products and services.

But you can have an unfair advantage over all these marketers. This program ranks your video for you so that it can immediately start getting views. If you link your blog to your video in both the description and in the video itself, people will follow the video to your post. The more views of your blog, the more money you can make off Google AdSense, affiliate marketing and selling products and courses.

Podcasting

Another way to make money online is by hosting an online podcast which is a great platform to find new sponsors and advertisers all the time.

Webinars

Another strategy is using webinars to market your product, service, or course. There are companies that streamline the webinar process for you.

Consulting

Another way to make money online is via consulting. If you’re an expert in any field, you could potentially find people willing to pay you to counsel them on their personal or business goals. You might think you’re not important enough to consult for big companies, but you could be surprised at the types of expertise people will pay for. I recommend building a LinkedIn profile with at least 500 connections in order to gain credibility in your field. A great way to do this is to write LinkedIn articles.

Influencer Sponsored Posts

If you want to get paid just to have lots of great followers who love you like many “social media influencers” do, you can try making money from sponsored posts. If you have built a blog or a large social media following, you can also make money by selling sponsored posts and ads. Companies are willing to pay bloggers and social media influencers to promote their products and services. If you have a platform, be it a blog or a huge Instagram following, you can cash in with influencer marketing.

There are two main ways you can do this once you have quite a few followers:

Use sites like iFluenz to get matched with brands that will pay you to include their products in your content in exchange for payment. Have a contact email or website where brands can reach out to you about a sponsored post-deal. You usually need at least 5000 active followers to be eligible to be an influencer.

To see some sponsored post examples on Instagram, just search #ad in the search bar.

Merch-on-demand

If you want to get creative and actually sell some products using your blog or social media such as Instagram, you can promote your own line of merch.

Merch can include coffee mugs, hoodies, t-shirts, phone cases, and much more.

A great way to do this is to use print-on-demand sites like Teespring or Redbubble because it can be costly as well as stressful to deal with manufacturers, packing, shipping, and customer support, otherwise. With many print-on-demand sites, you just upload your design, and you can create many different products for sale.

The company you sell it with will take a cut of the sale in exchange for doing the printing, packing, and shipping of the products. A lot of gamers and influencers sell their own merch like this.

If you are not that creative, you can find a designer on Fiverr, or you can use graphic design sites like DesignCrowd to outsource the creation of your designs.
