We are living in the age where being an entrepreneur and striking out on your own is akin to being a rock star in the 80’s. Building the next Instagram or Uber is all the craze and so many entrepreneurs are aiming to be next, yet many underestimate the level of difficultly in accomplishing such a feat. It isn’t that those that achieve a rockstar level of success got lucky or were simply at the right place at the right time; in reality, what got them there is that they stepped up to the plate and swung… a lot.
Everyone is striving to hit that “home run” but chances are you aren’t going to hit a home run your first time at bat. With a total of 714 home runs in his career, the 3rd most in all of the history of Major League Baseball, Babe Ruth is a legend still to this day. But do you know how many times he had to swing though to hit those home runs? 8,399 times in 22 years and that was just in games, not practice. It didn’t happen overnight and it surely didn’t happen every time he went to bat. He failed almost 93% of the time to hit a home run but he is still one of the most successful and known names in baseball.
So if you are one of the ones that are ready to take that journey and become the Babe Ruth of our time, be sure that you are ready to step up to the plate, swing a lot and fail before you hit that home run and become a known legend. Don’t be discouraged by falling short of your dreams or outright failing on your first or even your tenth try. Just remember that it is all a part of the journey of becoming successful. Just be sure to step up to the plate as often as you can and give it the best shot you got.
