Tucker Wilson is a freshman at Whitworth University and a biology major. Wilson is currently a member of the award-winning Whitworth forensics team while also using his keen sense of humor to participate in Whitworth’s improv group CoolWhip.

Meet Tucker:

Wilson is from a small town in northern Oregon called Helix. Being from a small town, Wilson found early on that he has never been shy and has always liked talking. He describes himself as a “lighthearted, argumentative person.” He has never had a fear of public speaking. This came in handy when Wilson became a freshmen at Whitworth and decided to try out for the debate team. “I fell in love with debate,” Wilson said.

The reason Wilson loves debate is because of the reactive thinking that it requires. He enjoys having to think on his feet and adapting to the situation. He also enjoys the exercise it gives him by making him pick and choose the important points to address.

Wilson is currently declared as a biology major but he won’t stop there. Wilson hopes to graduate in 2020 and attend grad school to get his masters in zoology. He also is interested in possibly double-majoring in writing at Whitworth. “I want to have the tools to get my voice out there,” Wilson said.

But it isn’t all about school for Wilson. CoolWhip has been something that Wilson has enjoyed very much in his time here at Whitworth. Growing up with an outgoing dad, Wilson knows that he has never been shy. This showed when he decided to take a risk and audition.

CoolWhip has been a tradition at Whitworth for the past couple of years. The group is known for spontaneous shows that leave the audience rolling in laughter. CoolWhip members are known for being hilarious and corky. During CoolWhip, Wilson is known for his impressions.

Wilson enjoys both speech and debate and CoolWhip, but rarely mixes the two public speaking styles. He knows when throwing humor into a situation to make it better and when doing so would be inappropriate. Wilson said sometimes he will try to use humor in a debate setting but mostly stays away from it.
