In a 1921 Printer’s Inc (sic) ad, a publicist by the name of Frederick Bernard first proclaimed the infamous saying “one picture is worth a thousand words.” It most certainly is and over the past few weeks, students at NC State have actually been studying exactly how an image can be used to communicate. The numerous techniques we have found have been used in advertising to enable the industry to convey messages which may be inaccurate and extremely disillusioning.

We have already taken a few ads that have been successful in the fashion industry and dissected them.

Our findings can be found in the article titled “The Exploitation of the American Dream” on Medium! But today, we are sitting down with a few individuals of different backgrounds — exposing them to the same series of advertisements and getting their first hand opinions of how they have been impacted as well as how or why they think the brand has been successful.
