3 Easy and Accessible Ways You Can Journal That Doesn’t Involve Paper

Journaling is powerful. Its benefits for us mentally and physically are numerous. It makes us feel good, helps with self-reflection, and gives us precious me time. It is the ultimate self-care tool.

But if you’re someone starting out on their journaling journey, the idea of putting words to paper might be slightly intimidating. You might feel awkward using good ol’ pen and paper.

So here are three easy and accessible ways you can journal that doesn’t involve paper.

#1: Use an app

Technology is both a blessing and a curse. In this instance though, you can use it to your benefit, because the app market is absolutely saturated with journaling apps made just for you.

Apps are an easy and accessible way to journal anytime anywhere, because they can be accessed from your phone (which we all know is always by your side). Some of my favourite journaling apps include:

  • 5 Minute Journal
  • Day One
  • Happyfeed

#2: Write online

Technically, you’re reading a journal entry right now!

Blogging and writing online can be an easy, accessible and fun way to start journaling. There are plenty of platforms and social media channels that you can use to start publishing your thoughts — all you need is a phone or laptop.

Writing online also has the potential of making you a buck or two. The only caveat is that what you publish online will be seen by others.

So I only recommend this option if you’re someone who enjoys having an audience. Some free places to write online include:

  • Medium
  • Weebly
  • Wordpress
  • Facebook/Instagram
  • Quora

#3: Record yourself

I’ve definitely used this method when I’m feeling too lazy to write. You can use your phone for this one and don’t need to download any apps for an easy and accessible way to journal.

I just go onto my phone voice recording app or camera, press record, and start talking. There is something strangely therapeutic about talking to oneself. In fact, studies have shown that intelligent people do talk to themselves. So win-win!
