Context: Nairobi

Source: urbandaddy.com

Scene 1:
Girl is in a matatu. Conductor hikes the fare price. Girl won’t stand for it and pays the usual amount. Conductor threatens not to let her out at her stop unless she pays more. Girl is unfazed. Matatu stops at girl’s stop to pick up passengers. Of course she gets out.

As she walks away he shouts after her “Malaya wewe!”

Scene 2:
Girl is walking down the street minding her own business. Random man on the street says something offensive and tries to touch her vagina. Girl slaps him away and tells him off. Loudly.

Man immediately responds with, “Malaya wewe! You’re not even hot!”

Scene 3:
Man suddenly divorces woman after 18 years of marriage. During divorce proceedings, woman meets someone. Four months after divorce is final, woman and someone go away together. Man calls woman endlessly during their trip, demanding to talk to her someone.

When she doesn’t budge, man threatens her and ends with “Malaya wewe!”

There is a time when that bothered me, now I see it for what it is.

Stupid cowards.
