Whether you‘ve done it intentionally or by accident, we’ve all cracked our knuckles at some point. For a long time, it’s been a mystery why they crack, but scientists have discovered most of the answers.
When you crack one of your knuckles, you form a bubble, sort of like a vacuum, in the fluid surrounding your joint. Not long after that, the bubble pops.
It’s either the formation or the popping that causes the sound you hear, but scientists aren’t entirely sure which.
