My Journey from Food Enthusiast to Entrepreneur
How one food lover transformed her passion into a career
The journey up to this point in my career has been so amazing. Sometimes when I think about how I got here, it’s hard to believe that some of these things actually happened!.
Try to stay with me, because things are going to move fast!
It all started in high school. That’s when I fell in love with food television. Honestly, it was more of an obsession than a love at that time. I was so inspired that it motivated me to start baking. After high school, I decided to make food more than just a passion project. So I enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in London, England and graduated with the Grand Diplome in Pastry and Cuisine.
From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to turn my new skills into a life-long career. But I couldn’t dream of what would happen next. In what seems like an instant, I started to travel around the world. I was lucky enough to visit places like India, South East Asia, Israel and more. While I was in India, I got the opportunity to re-open a café in Rishikesh, a city in the northern region. I taped the entire opening process and without realizing it, I made my first TV reel.
When I returned home from my travels, I moved to New York City and enrolled at ICE for their management program.
Luckily for me, while I was studying and working at a bakery in the Lower East Side, I was able to get my tape into the right hands. Almost immediately after, I got sponsored for a Visa from the bakery I was working at, and my business partner and I produced and sold our first show, “Eden Eats”, to the Cooking Channel. After “Eden Eats”, we created another show, “Log On and Eat with Eden Grinshpan”. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to appear on shows such as “Iron Chef America”, “Beat Bobby Flay”, “Chopped Canada”, “VH1 Big Morning Buzz”, “Prince Street Podcast” and many more.
This industry is full of surprises and it has opened so many doors for me, and for that I’m so grateful. Recently, Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels asked me to be a part of their #WhySettle campaign, which is about people who don’t settle in their careers or “good enough.” Knowing how hard I’ve worked to achieve success, I felt extremely flattered to be included. All this seemed to happen at an appropriate time too. Soon after I got the call to participate, I had one of my busiest weeks ever — what seemed like an endless amount of shoots, back-to-back meetings, and tons of work that needed to be done in a short period of time. But graciously enough, Hyatt Place New York/Midtown-South hosted me. I was able to be productive during my stay as well as kick back when I had a second to come up for air.
I’m so thankful for the opportunities I’ve had in my career so far. I know that I still have a long way to go, but it’s rewarding to know that my efforts are being recognized:) Can’t wait for what’s to come!
