With the death of greater Pennsylvania twinkly emo gods like Snowing, Algernon Cadwallader, and the last one was Marietta, we are gonna get some new fresh air. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s still popular in the scene. Anyway, if Snowing and Algernon transformed into Dogs on Acid, Marietta now return as Narra. But never think it’s the same band as before, it’s totally new thing. They have stripped away the twinkle sound and now, it’s all about riffing hard emo!

The Philly outfit, Narra released the first debut album back in June. The self-titled debut was recorded and mixed by Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo from The Superweaks who are also responsible for the latest album of The Obsessives. While Ian Farmer did the mastering.

The album is the best thing I listen in a while. It’s banger and emotive. They open the album with the ‘Best Parts’. The mood is kinda Oso Oso but they can spin it in their own game. Then comes ‘Actual Hell’ with an effective The Get Up Kids synth and so that’s why I feel it’s so The Superweaks if that makes sense. And ‘jackie, fl’ goes with hardcore vibes and so energetic makes me wanna jump around. It’s closed perfectly with ‘22’. While lyrics wise, they touch universal stories of parting ways and growing up.

I think everything they do here is really in line with Joyce Manor, Dogs on Acid, Oso Oso, and Prince Daddy & The Heyna.
