Lil Rad Stories of the Week #6
Camp Cope
Camp Cope’s new album is highly anticipated and it doesn’t disappoint me or everyone else. The first track “Opener” is the most storming song in this record and it pretty much set up the emotion for the rest of it. I think it’s easily the best album of 2018. Plus, every major media outlet and blogger now should stand pro inclusion and gender balance. Otherwise, Georgia Maq would say “it’s another man telling us we can’t fill up the AOTY list.” How about that sucker? Also the best fucking punk bassist of the year in row is Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich.
Turnspit
The four-piece punk fronted by Gillian McGhee plays typically midwest punk that comes with good parts of melody, catchy chorus gruff vocals, and yes emotional lyrics. They also recorded the album at Atlas Studio, best known as the holy place that produced your favorite Chicago punk bands, that means including Alkaline Trio and The Lawrence Arms. Also If you’re digging some other new band like Sincere Engineer or Deforesters, make sure you listen to Turnspit as well.
Harker
Harker is a ripper. The band does a great job with the album and ridiculously catchy. First time I listen to this band it reminded me of Samiam (Whatever’s Got You Down) and some say got Husker Du on Flip Your Wig. Just listen below.
SOFTCRIME
Softcrime just wrote the best punk-pop song ever! If you asked what they wrote here, it’s a simple yummy love letter for a bus. Bismania nerds, here is your soundtrack!
The Shoptalks
The Shoptalks is lovely and catchy despite the fact sometimes they’re also dangerously bitter band. You’ve heard millennial kicks right? So this is another kickass fed up song from the band. It’s awesome song for it was not talking about me. Too all good souls, I hope you guys sing along and if you ran into guy like they’re singing in this song, just screaming fuck those boastful fartsuckers!
Casual Friday
Just jamming to Casual Friday, their album is fun. Like enjoyable and real banger as well. Giving the album name Weekend Forever is motherfucker accurate bruh! Casual Friday may be one of the buddies of Pictures of Vernon, Just Friends and Graduating Life. Hope they name their squad Vans-Cali Gang. Gucci Gang can’t beat guys with Vans!
Retirement Party
Are you like me? I mean poor bastards who haven’t heard the band called Retirement Party before this? Yeah you do dummies. But I’m not you tho. I’ve checked the band earlier and I think the band would fill the gap somewhere between P.S Elliot, Dowsing and Nervous Dater. Go check it yourself.
Barely Civil
I listen to You With A Cape, Me With A Baseball Bat like every time I sit at my desk. That’s only the song that I can repeat more than once from this band. The rest is heavily influenced by atmospheric, slower, beautiful, and post-rock bands let’s say Foxing or Caracara? if you like that brand of emo, go ahead digging this.
