Ok, this is an interesting story, folks!

At the Icelandic High-Voltage Electrical Pylon International Design Competition the architecture firm Choi+Shine submitted a design project and proposed human shaped pylons that carry electricity cables across the Iceland’s land.

As the architects say, the human shaped pylons are solemn, variable and powerful. The new design will make only minor alterations to the already established steel-framed tower design.

Making only minor alterations to well established steel-framed tower design, we have created a series of towers that are powerful, solemn and variable. These iconic pylon-figures will become monuments in the landscape. Seeing the pylon-figures will become an unforgettable experience, elevating the towers to something more than merely a functional design of necessity. ” — Choi+Shine

Human Shaped Pylons Carry Electricity Across Iceland

The human shaped pylons that carry electricity across Iceland are in perfect balance with their environment.

For example, if the electricity lines ascend a hill, the human shaped pylons imitate a climbing person. How amazing is that, no ?

Over long spans, the pylon-figure stretches to gain increased height, crouches for increased strength or strains under the weight of the wires (…) The pylon-figures can also be arranged to create a sense of place through deliberate expression.

The Land of Giants Project received the Unbuilt Design Award from Boston Society of Architects in 2010 and won the Recognition Award at the Icelandic High-Voltage Electrical Pylon International Design Competition.

What do you think about the Land Of Giants project across Iceland ? Can you imagine how the human shaped pylons will look from distance ?
