Hiroshima prefecture can be said to be an eclectic region. This ranges from thriving business centers with huge populations to quaint mountainside villages with a single gas station. The people who live here get to experience both surfing and snowboarding, witness both coastline beauty and mountainous views. Since there is so much to do and see, how can the new traveler decide the best places to visit? How about reading my first-hand experiences to pinpoint your next adventure spot!

In the northern city of Shobara, close to the city center, you can find Bihoku Hillside Park. A beautiful and sprawling government-run park, Bihoku has plenty to offer for any age and interest. Every season has new flowers in bloom with an accompanying event in many cases. For the upcoming fall season, the Cosmos flowers will be blooming and there will be picnics held each weekend until the 20th of October. On the 13th of October, there will be fireworks and a Kagura performance that I will be sure to attend. In the park itself, the information desk has printed maps in English and they will be able to help you with many of the park's more interesting features.

I suggest one takes advantage of the bicycle rental available since the park is very large and offers several activities.

If you’re interested in golf, both a golf course and a Frisbee golf course are available for play with rentals for equipment available. There are four restaurants located in the park, along with corner barbecues which have snacks on sale. If you’re interested in staying the night, they have a complete auto camper area with lot rental available for overnight guests.

Bihoku Park is a beautiful and well-rounded park, and definitely a great testament to the natural beauty that the Hiroshima countryside has to offer. I highly suggest a visit. Chose whatever season you wish; you’re sure to have a great time.
