Today I’d like to introduce Yasuno Station to you. Located in Kake in Akiota-cho, it’s a former JR station that used to run between Kabe and Sandankyo Gorge. While it closed in 2003, you can still visit it today.

From Hiroshima city, it’s about a 50 minute drive, which I know is a bit of a trek. But I guarantee you it is one of the most beautiful spots in the spring, when the blossoms are out. Unfortunately, there is no public transport available as the location is quite remote.

Yasuno Station — Train Tracks

Yasuno station features a beautiful combination of peach, plum and cherry blossoms that provide an absolute rainbow. What’s more impressive is that you are permitted to walk on the tracks, as the entire line has been shut down. This provides a unique opportunity to capture some beautiful photos. Just remember to watch your step!

It’s a popular picnic spot too, with picnic tables and vending machines provided. You’ll see many families come here to enjoy the blossoms, so I recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds.

Yasuno Station — Decommissioned Train

Aside from the gorgeous views, you can also take a look inside the decommissioned train. While the station was shut years ago, one train still remains. Additionally, the station itself was preserved so you can learn about the history of Yasuno station, if it interests you.

The best time to visit Yasuno Station is at the start of April. So for those of you who are interested, I suggest planning your trip soon. Remember, you will need a car for this one. But trust me, it is worth it!
