Welcome to the latest edition of the WiFi Map Digest!

It’s been another busy couple of weeks in the WiFi Map ecosystem, with new promotions for the $WIFI token and our eSIM data plans, as well as updates for both the Android and iOS versions of the app.

Let’s dive into the highlights from the last fortnight.

eSIM price drop

Summer is almost here, and we’re offering discounts of up to 25% on our eSIM mobile data plans until the end of May. You can claim your cut-price data packaged for your eSIM-enabled phone by logging in to the WiFi Map app today!

This is on top of the recent price drop that saw our 10 GB package drop in price from $49.99 to $39.99, and the 15% cashback we’re offering on data packages redeemed with $WIFI. It’s never been a better time to go and explore the 70 countries currently supported by the WiFi Map eSIM, and that number is going up in the very near future.

Here are the price breakdowns for our eSIM plans until 31 May:

1 GB — $6.49 -> $4.99

3 GB — $17.97 -> $13.47

5 GB — $24.95 -> $19.95

10 GB — $39.99 -> $29.99

That means you can enjoy eSIM data at just $2.99/GB when claiming our 10 GB package. All plans are valid for 30 days.

Mega Buy Bonus

We also announced a very special limited-time $WIFI staking promotion in partnership with the OKX DEX. Welcome to the Mega Buy Bonus!

All you have to do is purchase any amount of $WIFI over 5,000 tokens and hold it in the OKX DEX for one, two or three months. The rewards are huge, and rise for 50% for holds of at least three months:

  • 50% bonus if you hold for three months
  • 40% bonus if you hold for two months
  • 30% bonus if you hold for one month

The bonus is valid for the first 5,000,000 $WIFI that’s purchased and pledged.

There’s still time to participate, so if you’re interested in boosting your $WIFI bags you can get involved by following the link.

Android update

Earlier this week, we released the latest version of the WiFi Map Android app, bringing two major updates.

Firstly, we’ve brought Android up to speed with iOS and you can now enjoy free VPN protection while browsing by simply watching advertisements in the app. Secondly, we’ve created a brand new neon colour palette for the $WIFI wallet.

We hope you love the improvements. Upgrade to the latest version now and let us know what you think!

iOS update

Hot on the heels of the Android update, we’re rolling out the latest version of the iOS WiFi Map app — 7.0.6 — packed with exciting improvements:

  • We’ve made the ‘Thanks’ screen even more informative by adding details about the Wi-Fi hotspot for which you received tips.
  • We’ve given a fresh look to the screens in your $WIFI wallet. Experience an updated visual experience while managing your tokens.
  • We’ve fixed a couple of bugs, including the notification time for background speed tests, and positioning issues in pop-ups throughout the app.
  • We’ve upgraded the UI for the newly-launched Arabic version

Ecosystem updates

It’s been another big week for in-app activity from our most loyal community contributors. We recently announced the results of the first airdrop competition to take place since the launch of the $WIFI token, and all contributors who have updated their WiFi Map app since we rolled out the $WIFI wallet will be automatically eligible for the next competition. As a reminder, the top-ranking contributor won 3,000 $WIFI and just under 39,000 people received rewards.

We had 467,370 new installations in the last week, up an amazing 15.77% on the previous week.

And here are the top five cities by new hotspots:

1. New Delhi — 153 🔥

2. Prague — 141

3. Baghdad — 91

4. Istanbul — 82

5. Bucharest — 75

India was the hottest country overall for new hotspots, with a total of 1,911 new public WiFi networks. Keep up the amazing effort 💪

Singapore-based ks still remains the contributor to beat, with an all-time score of 1,069,610. They only ranked fourth over the last week however, with UK-based Herbieridesagain adding 149 new hotspots, verifying 174 networks and running 64 speed tests over the seven-day period. Congrats!
