What happened to Central Cooling Systems in Nigeria?

In recent times, I’ve noticed with utmost disgust and irritation how conventional split air conditioning systems are used in large public and commercial buildings. I wonder how in the past we installed and managed them. A good example is the Rivers State secretariat complex. When built, central cooling systems were installed and managed. Currently, not just that those cooling systems aren’t being used but the recently (in the last decade or so) installed split air conditioning systems aren’t functional to say the least.

In my layman opinion, I really think that we (Nigerian Entrepreneurs) should be more innovative and daring as to set up and manage world standard facility management institutions as well as the facility owners being realistic right from the building of the foundation of their facilities to consider and out in place enough resources to support their facility managers.

I know that the Rivers State Government House was built and currently managed by Julius Berger. Here, they double as a construction and facility management company. The benefit greatly lies in the fact that since the built, it’ll be easier for them to manage the facilities as it also regards sourcing spares for preventive and corrective maintenance, correct colour and quality of paint used etc.
