Monthly Roundup: Wikitongues
This past month was a busy and exciting time for us: instead of our previous one blog post per month, we published 14 new blog posts! If you’re enjoying the new content, we would be delighted to hear from you.
We launched our podcast, Speaking of Us, earlier this month.
Speaking of Us explores what language teaches us about who we are and where we come from. To ensure that our podcast is accessible for all, we chose Medium as our platform for hosting transcriptions for each episode.
We also welcomed our two summer interns!
Isabella published two pieces for the blog — the first one focuses on talking dictionaries, an innovation that uses digital technology to make linguistic tools easily accessible to users around the globe, and the second explores computational linguistics. Cara published part one of her series on African American Vernacular English, which ties into our larger focus on exploring language varieties around the world, and how non-standardized language varieties are not given the same accreditation as their counterparts.
Curated articles
And we are happy to share that five of the articles we wrote for you this past month were chosen as top stories by the Medium team:
- “AAVE: The ‘Other’ American English Variety” by Cara Judkins
- “Til The Cows Come Home: Also Known as a Darn Long Post About Appalachian English” by Kristen Tcherneshoff
- “Heritage Language Acquisition: A Piece in the Language Puzzle” by Hannah Heisler
- “May the Fourth Special: Where Star Wars Gets Linguistics Right” by Daniel Bögre Udell
- “Let’s Talk About Clicks” by Kristen Tcherneshoff
We hope that you also enjoyed them! If you have any topics you would like to see covered on our blog, send us an email or post a response.
Every week we publish new oral histories on our YouTube, from languages around the world. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to listen and learn more.
Warmly,
The Wikitongues Team
