We want WikiTribune to be your go-to source for reliable, verified news. But fixing the many problems with the media isn’t just a case of know-how: it also takes funding. Lots of funding.

So far, more than 10,000 of you have backed us, and we can now announce that we’ve added $50,000 to the pot, thanks to a generous grant from Korean electronics company Embedded Smart Vision (ESV).

Jimmy’s over in Korea right now talking about the project, and ESV — who make smart tech including drones and cars — believe he’s onto something, so they’ve joined our supporters in making it happen. The grant comes with no conditions, and of course no editorial input: it’s just about moving the needle closer to our goal.

L-R: Josef Kang from ESV, Jimmy Wales from WikiTribune, and Kwame Ferreira from Impossible

Every dollar helps us hire professional journalists to create fact-based reporting; build a platform that can handle crowd-editing of news posts; and put in place all the pieces we need to hit the ground running when we launch later this year. Thanks to ESV, and you, that goal just got a little bit closer.
