and they are for some

If I thought these were the last days,
and they are for some
if not for all;

I would not cry over things I cannot change
I would leave what was in the past
and focus on watering this world with
love

If I thought these were the last days,
and they are for those who have died,
from illness, misfortune, knife, or fire
I would pause in respect
pray prayers that words find hard to grasp;
grateful I can still breathe
I would say,
“Water the world with rain,
with mercy and grace.
There are empty spaces that need to be filled with
You again”.

If I thought these were the last days,
and we never know when ours will be,
I’d still have hope in a better tomorrow
because the one who created the world
did not change
He still brings life out of death,
He points towards a different way
He told us to pray,
“Thy kingdom COME
on Earth as IT IS in Heaven”.

I would bow down
and let Him show us the way
instead.

If these were the last days,
I’d drink my coffee with awe of a child,
grateful for each moment of each day,
thinking of those whose breath
was gone before mine.
