In its simplest form, gratitude shows you that the grass beneath your feet is greener than you think. It makes you look at things from the lenses of a half-full cup rather than half-empty. It teaches you that happiness is always in this moment, and in this moment, and also in this moment.

Gratitude is more of a practice than an action. You practice it mentally and emotionally. It’s when you repeatedly take a step back to look at what you can be grateful for.

When you start being grateful, most of your worries seem smaller. Your fears have less power over you. And that changes everything.

What is phenomenal about gratitude is that, even though you will always know more fortunate people than you, you can still find at least one good reason to be grateful for every day. If you think about it, you will see that the same applies when we complain. As Justin C Scott said, “Many of us complain, few of us actually have genuine reasons to do so.”

Gratitude and happiness go hand in hand, yet, it is not about being happy all the time. It is about being able to manage life’s situations as they are. It’s about training our brains to see opportunity even during the most unfavorable times.
