Living through media

A couple of days ago, we had a major storm here in Argentina. As the situation got worse people started to get violent. One thing that made me think a lot during the following day of this tragedy was that people demanded, on twitter, politicians to go on a work on the rescue teams quickly.

At least in Buenos Aires, a lot of politicians and government officials were already in the area and working but they weren’t talking about it online.

They didn’t broadcast an official message before noon either. For many hours there was silence from the local government and people were afraid. They thought they were being ignored.

This got me thinking: Nowadays, if you do things but you don’t communicate or you don’t broadcast stuff… Nobody cares.

We seem to be living through media, we believe more in what media tells us than in reality itself.

This is serious and disturbing. People got angry and felt frustrated in some cases because nobody transmitted a message or someone refused to broadcast what was being done.

We need to go out to the world and gather all the signals be ourselves instead of consuming digested information.
