For the past three Januarys, I’ve been increasingly committed to the only resolution I make: to not make resolutions, set goals, or create new standards to work toward.

I believe January — the heart of winter — is absolutely not the time to start hitting the gym at four in the morning, not the time to double your working hours, not the time to decide to give up every vice.

In fact, I’d like to assert that January is a perfect time for celebrating the amazing person you already are, while trusting that we’ll be guided to grow and evolve organically as the year, and all the challenges it holds, begins to unfold.

The commitment to not making resolutions or setting goals has enormously contributed to my mental health these past few winters. It feels amazing to allow myself to simply be during this time of year, rather than following the cultural directive to push and strive.

However, this year, it occurred to me that I want to keep my eye on certain opportunities for growth — both in general, but particularly as that pertains to creativity.
