One day, everything will be different.

You won’t know when…not until the day arrives.

You’ll have to imagine something new while longing for what’s already passed. You might even have to make it up on the fly.

You might hate it. But if you’re lucky, some of the changes will feel like a relief. Like letting go of something that you just can’t hold on to anymore. It just got too hard.

And though maybe you wouldn’t mind going back — way back — leaving the recent past behind isn’t so bad. Maybe you are happy to feel just a little lighter.

It’s still hard, though. The relief doesn’t take away the grief.

Nothing can do that.

One day, everything will be different.

You’ll look in the mirror and you won’t recognize the person looking back at you.

You can feel the person you know underneath that mask, but you can’t see her anymore. You can’t figure out how the face in the mirror connects to the memories behind those eyes. It can’t be the same person…can it?

You’ll start to see this everywhere. Nothing looks familiar anymore. Time changed everything like a river wearing into earth, slowly cutting a canyon across a…
