Self Reflection

Don’t become too preoccupied with what is happening around you. Pay more attention to what is going on within you. — Mary Frances Winters
A large part of this blog has focused on the healing powers of nature. I truly believe that by better connecting to the natural world, we better connect to ourselves. By stepping away from the daily grind we can better assess our lives and look upon our actions with eyes that aren’t tainted by materialism, corporatism and selfishness.
At the beginning of this journey, I thought I would write about epic outdoor adventures that I may experience over the course of the summer. But then I realized that my relationship with nature was so much greater than a story. It was a much more personal and intrinsic relationship in which I leaned on my time outdoors to heal myself. To dissect my feelings, calm my stress and think my biggest thoughts.

I think the most important aspect of growing as a person is through self reflection. It is only by recognizing how our past actions (both good and bad) have influenced our lives, that we can move forward. So in the spirit of personal growth, I will reminisce on where I find myself since my first post.
1. I’m starting to open up more.
2. I’ve learned to take risks.
3. I’m holding on to the past.
4. I need to love myself.
I’m no where near an open book, but writing about my experiences has definitely warmed me up to the idea of facing my fears and letting others in. I’m also taking more risks, they’re small but it’s all about baby steps. Moving forward, I need to learn to let go and not worry about the past or things that are out of my control. Most importantly I need to love myself and accept who I am.
