Day Eight: Wild Women Writing Challenge

Chillin in the shade in Costa Rica

Today, in our Writing Challenge, we are prompted to shamelessly write a “word selfie”. We’re basically encouraged to toot our own horn, even if we need to exaggerate a little.

Danielle DeShazo is a single mom, rebel, adventurer, writer, activist, environmentalist, herbalist and gardener. She doesn’t live a “normal” lifestyle, because of the destructive nature of the mainstream capitalistic system and because she likes being with her child and having flexibility with her life.

Danielle travels countries and wilderness areas with her toddler and proves that other single moms can do it too! She recently has become obsessed with hiking trails in the national forest, because of the solitude and the healing power of the wilderness. She loves watching her child learn by being fully immersed in nature.

When she’s not exploring, she loves to experiment in the garden with plants and soil! She loves her hands in the dirt, skin being kissed by the sun and creativity flowing. And she stresses the importance of putting back into the earth. Sick of plastic packaging and poison in our food, she enjoys the creative freedom of making nutrient-dense things from scratch (and from local sources if possible)! She also enjoys fermenting things for weird fun!

She’s passionate about researching and sharing the connection between the consumer and the source of products and food. Her blogs and podcasts are not only about her adventures, but about consumerism, farming, dumpster diving, upcycling, permaculture and everything radical. She wants to connect people back to the land and to each other.
