Satisfaction in Stewardship

This morning, I sat down to read over Matthew 4:1–11 and Deuteronomy 8:1–10 with the help of He Reads Truth. I was reminded from these passages in the importance of discipline to the Lord. I took three points from this reading and I wanted to share them with you.

“Man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4

JESUS WAS A GOOD STEWARD OF HIS POWER

When Jesus was tempted by satan to turn stones into bread, Jesus relented not because he didn’t feel like doing this or because he didn’t think he can. He understood the power he possessed, but he reminded his tempter that God provides each and every time and that he need not use his powers when he trusted in God’s provision.

DEVOTION TO GOD

Jesus was also tempted to throw himself from the top of the temple, thus allowing him to enter heaven. But, he was resolute in the plans God had set for him, plans to be used as a sacrifice. Our sacrifice. This would have been convenient for him, opting not to live a life a perfection and devotion, but look the more winding road because it was what God had commanded of him. We must trust in the path set before us and stay committed to that path and the plans of God it represents.

“You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only you shall serve.” Matthew 4:10

THE BOUNDARIES GOD SETS

Satan tried one last time to tempt Jesus, offering him all the kingdoms and powers of the world. Satan, of course, was wrong from the get go. Only God can own the Earth, for it is His creation. Beyond that, Jesus knew to worship only God, not Satan and not himself. We must learn from this and understand the boundaries that exist in our world are for our good and that will ultimately guide us on the path of righteousness.

WHAT TO PRAY FOR

Pray that the Lord will always impress upon us the importance of following His Word and never taking a shortcut in this endeavor. May we be good stewards of our abilities and trust in the plans God has set for us.
