Premature birth is the leading cause of death in children under the age of five worldwide. Babies born too early may have more health issues than babies born on time, and may face long-term health problems that affect the brain, the lungs, hearing or vision.

World Prematurity Day on November 17 raises awareness of this silent epidemic. Throughout the month we draw attention to the lifesaving research, treatments and community support made possible when we work together to give every baby a fighting chance.

On November 17 we ask you to take action to support the global movement.

Here are 5 ways you can get involved:

  1. Change your profile pictures to bring visibility to World Prematurity Day.
  2. Make any Chloe + Isabel by Darcie Harper jewelry purchase and Will’s Way Foundation will provide a Chloe + Isabel charm necklace to a NICU mom in need of inspiration this holiday season. What’s more: 30% of your purchase price goes to Will’s Way Foundation’s support grant program. Now through 11/20, you can receive up to $75 off your purchase!
  3. Wear purple for prematutiy! Post a photo on social media with hashtags #EndPTB #worldprematurityday #prematurityawarenessmonth
  4. Join us to view SF City Hall lit in purple and rally for equity!
  5. Learn about the disparities that exist in how babies of different racial and ethnic origins are treated in Calfornia’s NICUs and preterm birth in your state.
