Coordinate meets and other motoring events easily.

Need to talk with multiple club members to organize an event? A willu hashtag can simplify group communication.

Smooth leather seats and chrome details drive straight to the heart of car club enthusiasts.

Car club members have specific tastes — import, antique, or speciality motor vehicle — but all are united by a common bond. Being part of the club is so satisfying, whether you are a member of the African American classic car club, the Low Country Travelers, or a self-described Tin Can Tourist.

Meets are the place where you can show off your vehicle and swap stories with other people. What could be better?

Well, one thing that could be better is how those meets are organized.

Meet Me In the Middle

Right now, most meets are organized by announcement on a website or forum. Before a big meet you need to know how many people are going, what people should bring, and how to caravan to the destination. Details are sorted out by email chains or lengthy online discussion threads.

That makes sense, but, it could be better.

Meet willu

Until now it seemed impossible to coordinate meets using a phone. First of all, you don’t know the numbers of everyone who might attend. Even if you do, there are no good ways to send a group text without sharing private phone numbers.

Yes, you could try and coordinate a meet using social media, but, the drawback is the distraction. Social media is great at drawing attention to other updates, making your coordinating efforts all the more difficult.

What if you could combine the features of a phone update, website forum, and social media all in one place? That’s where willu can help.

willu is a private messaging channel that delivers updates to everyone as a text message. It can be used to send one message to everyone in a group, or used to exchange direct messages with individuals. All messages are sent immediately and enjoy a 95+% open rate — a very high rate compared to most email subscriptions.

First, an organizer registers a willu hashtag. Select something related to your club, such as #MNUMINIS for the Minnesota United MINIS club. (Here are more ideas on how to choose a your hashtag.)

Then, instruct all of the members the club to text the hashtag to 94558 (willu).

Now, everyone subscribed to this hashtag would get text updates. These can be messages sent to the entire group, such as “Register for the Fall Foliage Tour”. Followers can reply to any broadcast message, either publicly or privately.

Hashtag owners can also send and receive direct messages to and from individuals. This is helpful for communicating the small stuff to individuals (“Marci, are all the window clings gone?”). More importantly, it’s an efficient way to communicate the “bigger stuff”, too — like last minute changes to the meet venue.

In a situation like this you would need an immediate broadcast. Message to everyone in attendance quickly. You would also want a communication channel that allows for private messages to people quickly and securely, too.

So, don’t wait. Register your club’s willu hashtag now. What will you do with it?
