“Championing innovation alongside diversity and inclusion at The AI Summit New York.

Organizations with a good representation of women on the Board of Directors are likely to report 10% higher financial performance than their counterparts with all male or little women representation.

Yet, women make up less than 25% of those working as AI specialists, and even less in technical leadership roles.

The Women in AI Summit, at the AI Summit New York, presents a line-up of women leaders and passionate allies including:

  • Alessandra Sala, Sr. Director of AI & Data Science, Shuttershock
  • Aishwarya Srinivasan, Data Scientist, Google
  • Debbie Botha, MD, DaleBrook Media Middle East
  • Petrina Kamnya, Head of AI Platforms, Insilico Medicine

Join them to discuss AI through the lens of ethics, culture, and development, whilst still considering the ROI of AI.”

Kathleen Booth at work

Kathleen Booth was one of the early British computing pioneers. She co-designed one of the world’s first operational computer. She was credited with the first “assembly language”, and she wrote two of the earliest books on computer design and programming.

In 1953, Booth and her husband published a book called Automatic Digital Calculators where not only they explain the design of a computer, but also they present techniques on how to program them. The last chapter of the book talks about the application of such programs. Examples include — Linguistic Processing, Computer Games, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

“Possibly the most exciting area of computer research at the present time is that of artificial intelligence.” — Excerpt from the book Automatic Digital Calculators by Booth & Booth (1953)

Kathleen Booth, who passed away in September 2022 at the age of 100, filled her years with meaningful innovation, fruitful research, inspiring encounters — and involvement in several major technological milestones which form the foundation of computing.

What’s the big deal with Data Fabric vs Data Mesh vs Data Lakes? via New York Streams

Date and Time: Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM EST

Please join us at the session that is best suited to your time zone. Note that this topic is:
1. Repeated at two different times to accommodate various time zones, because it is…
2. Posted simultaneously in multiple meetup groups world-wide

Recently Data Fabric became a new buzz word, offering a better alternative to fighting data silos. But what about Data Lakes? Just 10 years ago, they also promised to bring an end to data silos… You probably also heard about Data Mesh architecture and might be wondering how it compares to Data Fabric.

Join this session to learn how Data Fabric can simplify access to data in today’s siloed data landscapes and how Data Mesh architectures help break down Data Lake monoliths and empower domain teams towards owning and serving data.

In Person Event: Data Driven Scheduling & Decision Makingvia NYC Data Engineering & Science (Data Council)

Date and Time: Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST

Location: 636 6th Ave, 3rd fl · New York, NY

“Talk 1: Data Infrastructure for Product Experimentation
Speaker: Vineeth Madhusudanan, Product Manager @ Statsig
Abstract: Product experimentation is the cornerstone of data-driven decision making. However, to adopt experimentation, product teams need infrastructure and tooling that’s (a) easy to onboard and (b) that provides easy-to-interpret results. In this talk, we share common challenges and solutions for building this data infrastructure and tooling to operate reliable and trusted pipelines. We also share lessons in crafting tools for real-time data exploration, easy diagnostics, and smart decision making. You’ll walk away with a framework for how to assess your team’s maturity on data-driven decision making, how you can build the underlying data infrastructure incrementally to move up the curve, and how to anticipate and address the challenges in scaling data operations for experimentation.

Talk 2: Data Driven Scheduling + AstroSDK as part of Airflow 2.4
Speaker: Viraj Parekh, Founding Team & Field CTO @ Astronomer
Abstract: Data driven scheduling is game changing, and AstroSDK, an OSS, Apache Licensed project that works with any Airflow environment, takes it to the next level.”
