Breaking News: Wind Eggs is moving to Substack. As much as I’ve enjoyed writing for Medium readers, the paywall policies are too restrictive. I will earn more with one subscriber on Substack than for all my writing here. I will keep posting here and at The Haven, but with less and less frequency, and most of it will appear on Substack first. Hope to see you there.

A TINY BLIP ON THE SCREEN of the Thomas Hudson Clark Observatory in New Zealand signaled to the world that an extraterrestrial encounter was approaching. NASA scientists conferred with astrophysicists around the globe and soon confirmed the unknown flying object was, in fact, well known. They’d finally found the USS Doobie, the first ship to leave the solar system and which had disappeared five years before.

Based on the ship’s decaying orbit, and vertical landing capability, NASA scientists speculated the ship would touch down in Florida, five miles out of Cape Trump. They dispatched six crash/collision recovery vehicles, four ambulances, a mobile radar, two armored troop transports and a half-dozen SUVs conveying NASA’s top scientists and brass.
