You Can Never Have Too Much Candy
Halloween week
SIX MINUTES AFTER SEVEN and they were already out of candy, but the Halloween crowd had just turned over. Toddler parents were herding their ankle biters to their vans, and the pre-teens were flooding onto the sidewalks. Maria sent Omar to the Costco for another dozen bags of candy twenty minutes ago, and only two Butterfinger bits remained at the bottom of her plastic pumpkin bowl.
She’d told Omar they should probably buy twice as much candy as last year since parents would want to make up for opportunities lost to COVID the year before. Omar said, “why waste money on candy that we’ll have to eat from now until Thanksgiving?” Now she suspected twice wouldn’t be enough and Omar would be making in a third run when the teens hit the streets.
