The Chicago Blackhawks have singed defenseman Joni Tuulola to an entry level contract, accoring to Scott Powers of The Athletic.

The sixth round pick in 2015 for the Blackhawks, Tuulola has spent the last 3 seasons playing in the Finnish Elite league, SM-liiga, previously for HPK before moving to Sport this past season.

At 6'2, 185 lbs, the 22 year old Finnish defenseman has the size and skill set to become a solid NHL defenseman. Tuulola has played well in his time in Finland, but a change of teams saw him recieve and increased role, which has led to his best season yet.

In 58 games this season, Tuulola has 23 assists and 30 points, a large increase over his mere 8 points the previous season, and more than doubling his career high 14 points set in the 2015–16 season.

He is set to join Sweedish forward Victor Ejdsell, who was acquired at the trade deadline for Ryan Hartman, with the Rockford Ice Hogs, who are currently fighting for a playoff spot.

Tuulola joins what is becoming a crowded prospect group for the Blackhawks defenseman. Tuulola will likely have to battle last years first round pick Henri Jokiharju, as well as Gustav Forsling and Luc Snuggerud, for a chance to contribute on the Blackhawks blueline next season.

Will Tuulola be able to crack the Blackhawks lineup next season? Let us know in the comment section!
